I work from within, using art to sort out complications. Creation naturally counterbalances destruction, and I hope my own creations serve to lift the hearts and minds of my audience. I use classic materials and methods because I like their directness and intimacy. Paint, conte sticks, pen and ink, and pastels are my most treasured tools. I love the textures of raw canvas, wood, heavy paper or newsprint. The challenge of using as few lines and colors as possible in order to produce an effective piece of work is a great pleasure. It is just as satisfying to splash bright colors within exaggerated black outlines to produce something graphic and exciting. Currently, I have been working on more photorealistic pieces, exploring colors and surfaces. Found objects such as jewels, shells, anything with a high shine factor or interesting colors really capture my interest.
